Oh hi!

I'm pretty sure that any followers I once had are long gone, but that's ok...I've been feeling the itch to write again so here I am.  Since I last wrote...a year and a half ago...I have moved to Alexandria, VA and started a new job at a missing and exploited children's nonprofit.

Anyway, my cousin, Christie, tagged me in a blog game so I thought this was just as good a way as any to get back into writing here.

The Rules
1. You must post the rules.
2. Post eleven fun facts about yourself on the blog post.
3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and then create eleven new questions to ask the people you've tagged.
4. Tag eleven people and link them on your post.
5. Let them know you've been tagged!
11 "Fun"(?) facts about me

1. I can't do a cartwheel.  Or a somersault really.  It's pretty sad.
2. I grew up in Maine and lived in New England for 27 years, but last winter was my first time on skis.
3. My boyfriend has been brewing his own beer for a little over a year now and I'm loving helping him...especially when it comes to helping him drink it.
4. I am terrified of flying in airplanes. I'm not a big fan of being stuck in something I can't get out of.
5. I always wanted to be in a rock band, but I can't sing and have no musical ability so the chances of me getting any further than singing into my hairbrush when I'm alone are pretty slim.
6. When we first got Bandit I was eating Raisin Bran and since I don't like raisins I picked them all out and gave them to him. As an afterthought I looked online to see if raisins are ok for dogs and found out they OMG ARE SO NOT. I spent the rest of the day hovering near him waiting for him to drop dead. He didn't.
7. I have never been a fan of young adult books, but had to read the Hunger Games after hearing so much about it.  LOVED the first book, liked the second, HATED the third.
8. I love swimming, especially in the ocean.  Nothing is better than sitting on a beach and looking across the waves and realizing just how small we are.  I also love staring at the night sky for the same reason...I am in love with astronomy and love learning about all of the other worlds out there.
9. I've recently decided I would like to learn how to ride a motorcycle.  Anyone have an extra one they want to give me?

10. For Thanksgiving 2010 Geoff and I took a road trip from Rhode Island to Texas to visit friends and family.  We stopped in Nashville for my birthday on the way back.  It was one of the best weeks of my entire life.

11. Our car broke down when we went to get our tree this past Christmas.  We had to be towed home with a tree tied to the top of the car.  It was classy.

Now to answer Christie's questions...
1. Worst Habit?   Ugh, I'm pretty sure I have a lot of bad habits...probably the worst is hitting snooze way to many times every morning.

2. Where did you meet your spouse? I want details.  I'm not married, but I feel like I am so...Geoff and I met when we worked together at a nonprofit in the Summer of 2006.  A group of us would go out after work and as Geoff and I talked we realized that though we had never met, we went to the same college, had the same major and would have two classes together that upcoming fall semester.  We started hanging out a lot more and the rest is history!

3. If you could sit down and eat dinner with one person who would it be? They can be living or dead.  I always hate these questions because there are so many people I would choose.  Honestly, in this moment I would pick Mamie, my great grandmother who passed away almost nine years ago.  She was an amazing woman and I miss her terribly.  I have so many things I would want to ask her now that I'm older.

4. What's your favorite side dish at Thanksgiving?  Pumpkin pie!  Oh that's dessert not a side dish.  Ummm...probably the rolls or the mashed potatoes.  No wait...cranberry sauce.  I really like Thanksgiving dinner.
5. What's your dream vacation?  Three weeks in Italy.  One week to explore the cities, a second in the mountains, and the third on the beaches of the Mediterranean.

6. What book has influenced you most?  Many books have influenced me in different ways and I honestly can't think of a stand out. Some have opened my eyes to the tragedy in the world and have strengthened my resolve to change it.  Some have encouraged me to live more in the moment and to take risks.  Some have helped me to love deeper.

7. Why don't you like brussel sprouts? If you do like them, how do you prepare them? I refused to even eat a brussel sprout until a few years ago because I hated the look and smell.  I tried them finally because Geoff loves them and I baked them with olive oil, salt and pepper.  They actually weren't so bad!

8. What do you wish you would have spent more time doing 5 years ago?  Hanging out with my girlfriends in college and relishing the end of college more.
9. If you live to be 90 years old what will have been most important to you?
My relationships with my family and knowing that I'd done something in my life to make others' lives better

10. What's the first thing you do when you wake up? Groan and hit the snooze button

11. What's the last thing you do before you shut off the lights? Give the pup a pat and a hug and Geoff a hug and a kiss.

Now I'm going to break the rest of the rules, because while I'm still reading blogs, it's been so long since I've written here or commented elsewhere that I have no one to tag.

Until next time!
